Day 37: Breathe

Read John 14:16-17

Most religious people in the world rely upon “go‐betweens” to get close to God. Some rely on witch doctors to connect with the powers they believe influence our world. Others look to revered saints. Rather than some spiritual guru, someone who pens your horoscope, or even your pastor who “prays better than you” (this most certainly is NOT true), Jesus wants you to know that He has come as close to you as possible! There are no “go‐betweens” to Jesus!

When you were baptized, God moved into your life through His indwelling Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). When you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you didn’t join a religion. You entered into the most important relationship of your life. Religions fill your life with rules. Jesus fills your life with companionship. Jesus fulfilled His promise to remain with you always by sending His Holy Spirit to live in you. Therefore, you don’t need a shaman or a ouija board to get direction for life. You don’t need to go to a shrine or holy place to pray. You have become God’s holy place (1 Corinthians 3:16). Jesus has moved into your life. God is not only “with you”, but He is also “in you”!

God’s Holy Spirit is like the wind. You cannot see the wind, but you can feel it. You can breathe it in as it blows all about you. Christians have referred to prayer as the soul’s breath for centuries. How long can you hold your breath? It is more difficult to hold your breath than to breathe. Breathing lets in the life‐giving air pressing in all around you. And prayer lets in your life‐giving Lord who is eager to answer your petitions. It is easier for a Christian to pray than not to. Talk to your Savior wherever you are, out loud or in your heart, and all the time. Jesus has removed every obstacle.
