Day 40: Devotions "How To"

Read Psalm 119:105-112

There are people in the world you wouldn’t miss the opportunity to meet. Well, God Himself wants to meet with you each day. Are you a “night person” or a “morning person”? You may need to experiment to discover the best time and place to develop the habit of Daily Devotions. What changes will you need to make for this to happen? You may need to get up earlier or cut out a daily Netflix episode. If at first you don’t succeed, try a different place or time. Ask God to help you. God literally made time to be with you!

BEGIN WITH PRAISE
Sing praise songs. If you’re not musical, take a gander at Psalms 145‐150 for an example on how to rave on God. Just tell Jesus that you love Him.

PRAY BEFORE READING
Like this: “Lord, please speak to me and teach me through Your Word. I surrender my whole life to You. Open my eyes to all You want to show me.”

READ BIBLE PASSAGE(S)
Read slowly, thoughtfully (and maybe out loud). What is the point of the passage? How does it relate to your life? You may want to underline something in your Bible and write the date and situation that made it important in the margin.

KEEP A JOURNAL
Buy a notebook. Let it be your spiritual diary. Write in thoughts and impressions you gain during this time.

PRAY
Start small (5 minutes?) and work your way up. Many Christians spend at least 10 minutes per day on these topics:
  • Your Church's Ministry
  • Your Team Members
  • Your Government and World
  • Friends and Family to Know Jesus
  • Your Connect Group
  • Your Missionaries
  • Your Hopes and Dreams
